Painting in Hawaii
Expression of a Raw Moment

10 minute sketch in the heat of the moment.
This month my husband and I celebrated 29 years of marriage and have been together over 33 years. What a blessing! In sharing these years we have walked through many changing seasons, some incredibly good and some not so good.
A while back I had an experience that really showed me how much my own emotions play into my creativity. We were going through a very trying season and engaged in a very heated "agree to disagree" conversation. I was overwhelmed, actually angry and retreated into my studio. Almost immediately I pulled up an old photo of him and did a very quick sketch, maybe to release my emotion, escape them or just do something, anything that would take me out of that moment. When I finished, maybe ten minutes or so, I realized not only how much my emotions had played into the painting I produced, but also how I portrayed his emotion as well. I had captured a fleeting moment.
That's what painting is all about right? Recording the fleeting moment that is right in front of us, right here, right now. I have the painting hanging in my home and technically it has problems, but to me, I love it. It is an expression of a raw moment that will surely come again and will most certainly pass with the ever changing seasons of life.
